After deciding to go with donovans season of the witch we thought it would be good idea to add objects into the video that may link strongly or lightly to the theme of the song along with people. we had the idea of people wearing masks because of the idea that people are not what they seem.

mood board

This is my mood board showing the style i will be going for in the music video. As you can see it is quite gothic however it has cute barbie like elements to it e.g. pink/lilac hair. We decided that i will be wearing a lace veil bunny ears to indicate the fact people are not what they seem. The rabbit ears also goes well with the video because the songs has drug and paranoia themes which links almost with alice in wonderland.We were also thinking of me wearing a litteral witch hat to indicate the song name, season of the witch.

Risk assessment

We made a risk assessment table and thought about all the risks and dangers involved with the making of our music video. We thought abut where we were filming and the equipment we will be using to help assess what could go wrong.

shots

We made this little video to practice some of the shots and give George the chance to practice his lip syncing performance. By doing this task we learnt a lot about what we will do in the final video. We also had some practice making shots of the objects which we have been thinking about. We realised that this looked very cool and would fit well in the music video.

We also got some feedback from the class and our teachers. They said they liked the shots but Georges lip syncing needed some work. The said it didn't look like he was singing and you could tell that he wasn't singing. We took all the feedback we got into account and will work on improving our skills for the final production.

group availability

George made a timetable which shows when everyone in the group is available to film for the music video. It is important for us to know when everyone is available so we can book filming locations. We also exchanged mobile numbers so that we could contact each other when we had idea's and when we wanted to plan filming or any other related activities.

Website

his is the website so far and it is almost ready it just needs to be filled with content. The basic look and functionality is there but some text and pictures need to be added such as the digipack. Here is the pages bar which will lead the user to different parts of the website.

This is the background of each of the pages for the website and will contain different content depending on it's title. All of the pages will show the artist and the logo. All pages will also include a follow button and a like button for people to show support and raise awareness for the artist. It is very important for the artist to stay connected with his fans which will help sell to his fans.

Music video influences

beyonce's single ladies uses a white open space and also uses black and white. This is what we are aiming to use when we come to filming our own music video.  This is a good example of use of white backdrops and open space.
This video by twin atlantic uses strange and often sexual imagery including playboy bunnies and girls however we chose to take from this the idea of masks particularly animals. The meaning of our song is paranoia,drugs etc. Therefor we aim to show you the world through lsd'd eyes.

This shot in particular is what we are most inspired by.




Another example of using alot of white background this music video also uses alot of random and strange refrences much like what we aim to do.

Although the music is completely different to what we are going for this music video does exactly what we want but in a very quirky and cute fashion. This video uses white indoor space and making the most of props and weird imagry.
Another example of use of masks In this video kyary uses masks and weird halloween creepy atmostphere make her video. After extensive research i came to find that japan tends to use masks alot in their music videos therefor i went into looking at Jpop videos to find influences.

Production Diary #1 (Group Post)

Today we had our first group meeting since making a final decision on the choice of song (Season of the Witch). The first item on our agenda was location; for the minimalist and conceptual video we currently visualise we require a large white space, of which is used for many music videos that have influenced our vision such as Lazaretto by Jack White. 

Our first thought was that we could use our school's dance studio, as it is a large room with a white wall; however the flooring is grey, and to have performance shots like the one above we would need a more flowing backdrop to create the most professional aesthetic. For this reason, our best option may be to purchase a large white sheet, to set up like a proper studio with sufficient lighting either at home or at a large room in school.

We also started to consider the performance element of the video; to inter-cut with the unusual artistic shots of objects, a strong performance will be vital. Although the song was performed by Donovan who had a psychedelic 'hippy' look, the tone of the song and our visual concept for it are quite dark and Gothic. For this reason, we feel that our performer must have a clean, almost vampire-like Gothic appeal, like Marilyn Manson or Jack White for example, perhaps with some interesting accessories such as shades, bandannas and shock-rock make-up.

Finally, we listed some potential artistic shots. These include:

• Close-ups a guitar/bass being played, and a 'go-pro' like shot from the guitar headstock looking down the fret-board
• Close-ups of hands and feet tapping along to the rhythm
• Close-ups of people's faces, mouths and eyes darting around
• A balloon with a phrase such as "HELP" written on it being popped
• Close-up shots of various items such as a lava lamp, a lucky cat, a sand-timer, light-bulbs and drug paraphernalia, with follow-up shots of them being destroyed towards the end, in slow-motion.

Our next step will be identify what props, clothing and resources we already have, draft a storyboard, and then plan the performance element(s) of the video.

we as a group have been looking at different songs mainly old ones and have looked at a variety of  different genres including indie, psycadelic, rock etc. we came up with quite a few ideas such as


This song was georges choice. He took this song from the tim burton movie dark shaddows starring johnny depp where during one scene chloe mortez is dancing to this tune.






gerard ways solo song action cat was chosen by ben everyone enjoyed the up beat atmostphere of the song and the energy it has.
This was my choice. I liked digital daers still here because it had a beautiful tone and atmostphere i felt you could easily make a decent narrative out of this song.

We began shooting some scenes for the music video today. In an hour session we managed to capture the corridor scene, and begin to re-create the intro scene with the boy before he goes to school; we however encountered a problem which prevented us from getting the shots on the bus, so we will try as soon as possible to get these, as well as the classroom scene. To our advantage, we managed to persuade a few people from other groups to help us out.

In preparation for shooting the shot for shot music video re-production, we have gathered the lyrics to the first one minute of the song/video, collated a list of props and who is responsible for them, and taken 'screen-grabs' from the video to create a storyboard.
